Hannah Lancaster Sampler (“Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand…,”)
The Hannah Lancaster Sampler is a 19th century British piece.
The original sampler is very fine wool and silk floss.
Original dimensions 42.5 x 31.8 cm (16 ¾ x 12 ½ in.)
Completed in 1838, at Downham Seminary in England.
Outstanding feature is its cross motif worked into the border.
The Hannah Lancaster Sampler is part of the Worcester Art Museum’s permanent collection, in Worcester, MA, bequeathed to the museum by Mrs. J. Templeton Coolidge of Boston. 1963.28
